Bake Your Own Cinnamon Rolls

Looking to bake your own cinnamon rolls at home? This easy-to-follow recipe is perfect for making gourmet cinnamon rolls that are soft and delicious.

Preparation Time: 40 minutes
Cooking Time: 35 minutes
Serves: 8

Ingredients

Cinnamon Roll Dough

  • 300g self-raising flour
  • 70g butter melted, plus extra for greasing
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 130ml milk, plus extra for glazing

Creating the perfect filling

  • 55g light brown soft sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 40g butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar

Whipping up the icing

  • 60g icing sugar
  • ½ tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp cream cheese, softened
  • ½ tsp vanilla essence

Method

Step 1: Begin by preheating your oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Grease a 20cm removable-base cake tin and line with baking parchment. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, caster sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the butter, egg yolks, and milk. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry mixture to create a soft cinnamon roll dough. Then, place the dough onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle, approximately 30 x 25 cm. This dough can be used for making your own gourmet cinnamon rolls at home or for preparing mini cinnamon rolls if you prefer smaller treats.

Step 2: Mix together the filling ingredients - brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Spread this mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough. Spread the dough lengthways, like a Swiss roll, to form a log shape. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 8 even pieces and arrange them in the prepared tin. Brush the rolls lightly with extra milk and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown. After baking, let the rolls cool for 5 minutes before removing them from the tin. If you're looking to bake at home, consider making bulk cinnamon rolls to last you through this Autumn season! Or even try out pre-made frozen cinnamon rolls for convenience.

Step 3: Sift the icing sugar into a large bowl and make a well in the centre. Add cream cheese and butter, then pour over 2 tablespoons of boiling water. Stir until the mixture reaches a loose consistency, adding more water if needed. Stir in vanilla essence and drizzle the icing over the warm cinnamon buns. Serve your homemade cinnamon rolls warm or cold. If you prefer a hassle-free option, you can always opt for cinnamon roll delivery.
