Air-Fryer Fish & Chips
25th July 2024
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 10-15 minutes
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
- 60g cornflour
- 2 white fish fillets, such as cod or haddock
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp dried mixed herbs
- 3 medium potatoes
- 6-8 tbsp vegetable oil
- mushy peas or tarte sauce to serve (optional)
Method:
Step 1: Mix the cornflour, paprika, and mixed herbs with 1 tsp of salt and ¼ tsp of freshly ground black pepper, then spread the mixture out on a large dinner plate. Coat the fish fillets in the flour mixture on both sides. The fish fillets are now ready to be fried.
Step 2: Cut the potatoes into 1cm-thick chips using a large, sharp knife. You can leave the skin on or peel them, according to your preference.
Step 3: Place the chips in a large mixing bowl, then add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil along with a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Toss until the chips are well coated. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C and cook the chips for approximately 18-22 minutes, turning halfway through (or shaking the air fryer basket) until they are crisp and cooked. Keep the chips warm while you cook the fish, or cook the fish in a second air fryer basket if you have one.
Step 4: Spread 4 tablespoons of vegetable oil on a large dinner plate and dredge the coated fish in the oil to cover it. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C and cook the fish for 8-10 minutes (depending on the size of your fillets), carefully turning halfway through. Serve with either mushy peas or tarte sauce, if desired.
